I used the default setting which was .039. I was too excited to use it and didn't want to mess with adjusting it. I was afraid that it was a little too fine but I didn't get a stuck mash.

i've been using my jsp maltmill for aboutu 10 years now and i like it, but technology has progressed. I'd say from what ive heard you cant go wrong with the BC or the C&S...

I got the Monster Mill/ Crankandstein 2 roller. Love it. If you don't want the hassle of building your own hopper, then another brand might suit you better. I relished the task, and eventually motorized mine.

As a machinist, I advise Monster Mill. It's built like a tank, adjustable gap settings and comes in (2) roller/shaft sizes. I'm building a motorized grinder on a roll-around frame for a brewing buddy right now. The grinder itself will be flush mounted to the bottom of the wood table-top. The 20 pound grain hopper will be the only thing on top of the table. Perhaps I'll upload a pix or two when done.

My motorized (3/4 hp, 15 lb hopper) grain mill uses the JSP Malt mill on a similar roll-around frame. It's a fixed gap but crushes nicely. My ProMash software brewhouse efficiency setting has been at 82% for years. I can live with that.

As others have already lauded the Barley Crusher, I'll do the same. I've left mine at the factory gap setting (.039") and saw my efficiency go up 6-8% depending on the gravity/size of the batch. I typically get 81% on most medium gravity beers. I'm still able to get 75% even when my MT is maxed out (28 gallon volume) with over 60lbs of grain.

Somebody had to do it...

I bought a Corona mill for $15 on eBay, and I would absolutely do it again. I hear all the bad things that can happen with a Corona mill but mine seems to work perfectly. I have no desire to replace it for one of those ~$100 mills. The only reason I would replace it would be so I could use this one to grind corn come fall so I can make me some good ol' southern cornbread. :D

I used my trusty Corona a couple weeks ago to grind the grain for my APA. The grain turned out OK, but I gotta tell 'ya, 12 lbs of grain through that dinky auger was a long slog! First thing I did when I sat down and caught my breath was start searching for roller mills. I bought a Crankandstein 3D, and I ain't ever looking back.

BC is the way to go! takes a good corded drill to spin it but went from 55-65% to 83.5 every time with the factory settings with only one stuck sparge, a 50/50 red wheat and pilsner hefe with only 1/2 pound of rice hulls(guess I'll add more hulls next time)

Dont bother having your lhbs crush your grains, they dont want to hear you bitch about stuck sparges so they back it off about a inch....or they run it backwards (for some reason I noticed when the drill is going counter clockwise, which is easier to spin, the grains came out just like the big 3 online stores)
