It's great that it went to a BN army member. I saw that this afternoon long after you bought and I almost shit a brick when I noticed they cut $3000 off of a 1550.

Happy Brewing!

Nice going on the system. If you are a fan of "Breaking Bad", we had shipped that out for the second season, but they ended up going with a bucket mash tun system. But that 1550 WAS on set. So there you go.

Re: So who's the lucky SOB

My new toy (B3 1550) arrived on Friday, personally delivered by my father-in-law.

After unpacking and setting everything up, I had to order a new nozzle for the boil kettle burner that snapped off during shipping. Not a big deal ($5 part), but it prevented any brewing this weekend.

One question I have after reading the B3 manual:
The manual says the HLT should be set 5-10 degF above the mash temp and the pump (selected to Temp Switch) will cycle on when the mash temp drops below the Mash Tun temp setpoint. Would it also work to set the HLT temp setpoint equal to the mash temperature and recirculate the wort constantly (pump selected to On) throughout the mash? Are there any negatives to doing this (other than more run-time on the pump)? Additionally, to do a step mash or mash-out, I could just adjust the HLT temp setpoint to the new value.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

I think the HLT needs to be set higher to account for temperature loss in the tubing between the mash and the HLT.
