Re: 2014 NHC entry strategy

Just doing the same thing myself...... Ordinary Bitter, Dark Mild, Dortmunder 1, Dortmunder 2, American Brown and Scottish 70..... gotta figure out 4 by tomorrow. Bottled them all off kegs today - just gotta decide what is going in the box tomorrow.

I have thought the same about the lagers - lower entry level. Although, I think those that enter them tend to enter good ones. 5 entries would solve all my problems:) Probably go with Mild, and one of the Dortmunders for sure. Gotta decide on the others. I had American Brown get to mini BOS last year at NHC finals...... but, category 10 is crazy and not sure if I want to chance it or not - even thought this is as good or better than last year.

Dortmunder #1 and Scottish 70 just won categories at Drunk Monk yesterday - so they are proven winners. Personally, I think Dortmunder #2 is better...... but, #1 scored 42.5..... so now I am questioning my earlier plans to send #2.

Probably drink a sampling flight tomorrow after work and pack em up at that point.

Sounds like entering it as a 21A Specialty - Session strength American Pale Ale is what I'd do with it.
Ensure that you list the Special Ingredients as "Session strength American Pale Ale".
You want to broadcast that. Sometimes the specialty category does not get adequate info to the judges. Put that phrase everywhere in the registration forms so that it is obvious to the judges what is special about this beer. Do it to the point of repetition. You never know what your region is going to print out on the pull sheets.

Thank Bdawg that's great info!

My entry strategy is quite simple, I am going to walk through the door and head for the first beer I see! :aaron
