At what point do we consider these competitions being taken to seriously? At what point does this seriousness violate the brewers code?

This is just silliness. You know how to dethrone Jamil? Brew better beer. It's not like Jamil is holding back any information - he shares all of his knowledge with all of us so we can all brew better beer. I think it's amazing that he dominated the Great Lakes region. Maybe we should have made Michael Jordan stop playing basketball in his prime because he was better than everyone else. Or tell Tony Gwynn to stop hitting the baseball so much.

All that being said, I could care less about this whole thing. I have beer to brew. I'm out.

I agree with you Brad. My problem is that (thanks in part to Jamil) I already know how to brew much better beer than what I actually brew. As soon as I get off my lazy ass and get really serious about my brewing process, I will dethrone Jamil myself.

Guys, I absolutely refuse to voice an opinion on either side of this issue in this forum, but there's a lot more to this issue than just Jamil winning a lot of bling. In fact, the real issue that is being discussed (here and elsewhere) has very little to do with Jamil personally and a lot to do with the way the regions are split up, the way the staff (judges and coordinators) have to enter their beer and in how the points are awarded to *clubs* for the club of the year competition. Jamil is, unfortunately, one of the "forces of nature" that brought some of these issues to a head.

It has very little (if anything) to do with the fact that Jamil is a super mega extra pro gold brewer now with extra minty freshness. Believe it or not, there's some really valid points buried in all the crap surrounding this ugly debate and there are some things that should probably be looked at and addressed. You just have to go beyond the surface issues.

If you guys are AHA members, it really might behoove you to dig a little deeper into the issues, talk with your AHA representatives (that's what they are there for) and find out exactly what is the meat of the issues and then work with those same reps to make sure your viewpoints (on either side of the issues) are heard at the GC meeting in Orlando. Calm reasoned dialogue is not a strong point for most of us (smile) but it is something that is really needed here.

Gary,

That's exactly the problem I had with this message in this isuue of AHA Tech Talk. There is CLEARLY a problem with the rules, but to air it out by taking a veiled swipe at anyone is just uncalled for.

I posted this here so people could see what was going on, and so I could bash the guy, 'cause that's OK, HERE. I replied to the Tech Talk with a much more subdued letter basically stating the above. Maybe they will post it.

The rules need to be changed so that it is fair for everyone. Throwing names around and questioning people's motivations for competing and the VALIDITY of deciding to compete makes it personal and polarizes the issue.

Thankfully, in this forum I can call that man a baby since doing so in the Tech Talk will not resolve the issue and focus people on what the issue really is. This is a place where we can all take the piss out of Kevin for his comments and his attack on our bitc... I mean Pope Jamil
