Oh, you guys are going DOWN. Just sampled a bit of mine. Seems to have leveled off at 1.017. Here is where it's going to get interesting....

Just sampled mine. Down to 1.004 from 1.054. A little fruity. A little peppery. A lot yummy.

You can back out now and I'll only laugh at you a little bit.

I was thinking that we should all send our saisons into some competition that is taking place in September (or even October). That way we can have more impartial judging and help out a competition with more entries.

I know that part of this community brew is to learn how to evaluate beer. So sending beer to each other and judging it is still an option. But the problem with that is that if you sit down and judge a beer all by yourself, you might miss a huge flaw and score a beer in the 40s when it should have been in the 20s. Don't get me wrong here, competitions aren't perfect either. The last competition i judged in, I was doing light lagers with a national judge. I scored the light lager with a 21 because it was loaded with diacetyl. The national judge scored it a 42 and said that I should be more kind and ignore the diacetyl....i nearly slapped him in the face for saying something so stupid. I have actually come across a lot of old national judges who if they were to sit down and take the exam again, they'd fail it.

Sending in to the morebeer forum comp would be nice but i think its a little too early.

any thoughts?

From a logical, impartial standpoint, I agree with everything you said. However, a big part of why I want to enter this is for the camaraderie and chance to taste other BNers' beers. Besides that, we want to hear what the studio has to say about the finalists. If we all agreed on a comp that we want to support, I'd be all for sending a couple of beers to them as well, but I would do that in addition to, not in place of, the forum comp.

Maybe it would be fun for the next one to coordinate with another comp and see how our evaluations compared with theirs.
