It was an odd way to end a week of awesome fellowship with homebrewers. Everyone in that room was a friend until the BN won. The room went silent and they became jerks Fuck them.

As an Austin Zealot, I'm really sorry to hear you experienced a sour loser, and highly doubt it was actually one of our competitors which is even more hypocritical. We pride ourselves on being loosely organized a little too much. Although we have 60-75 members show up to our monthly meetings and about 600 on our Yahoo Group, but I suspect that we had less than a dozen of our members actually enter (but great showing from those that did!). A few were unable to enter the first round due to procrastination or distracted enough over the registration weekend that they were shut out of registration.

I have to admit being stunned last year when BN won, but being more involved in AHA and NHC as a whole makes me more understanding of how TBN is able not only to serve geographic areas without local clubs or even those where a club exists but for whatever reason your competition loyalty is to TBN. Personally, my first club was the Houston Foam Rangers and technically I'm a member since I get a registration at their annual competition, and I'm also a member of the Texas Carboys based in Cedar Park, TX, but I choose to compete and socialize most frequently with my home club of the Austin Zealots.

I am most proud of my BN Affiliation when I attend the annual party at NHC, in supporting local non-profits with a portion of the door proceeds. My delay in clapping was for the following reasons:

Reason #4 -- I was on the way back from the toilet
Reason #3 -- disappointed that my homeclub Zealots didn't win with a Hail Mary pass
Reason #2 -- dog-tired because the awards event went so late
Top Reason -- still hungover from double-fisting mead and imperial stouts at club night with the Amazing Kate.

Just glad I didn't blow chunks of the Spam chili that Schoppe aka "Mr. Brewniverse" had made for club night. I seem to recall congratulating Justin and Kate personally, although I was so exhausted and buzzed enough that I may have only told JP and Push thank you for the great live broadcast. Our winners at home knew before we texted and called them!

BTW - The Ninkasi Award winner Mark Schoppe is a member of the Austin Zealots, the missing club affiliation was an error that was corrected immediately today after he notified the AHA.

Sincerest congratulations to TBN for the win, and for furthering the passion and zeal for homebrewing through their hard work, tireless energy, and time!

Congratulations to the now 2-time Homebrew Club of the Year!

I've only been brewing solo since January 2010 and loosely associated to the hobby for three years before that. Dusty Peacock, who I have finally got to sign in here (he probably already forgot his login stuff by now) taught me the fundamentals and turned my on to the BN podcasts. I've been lurking in the shadows of the forums for most of my time as a homebrewer, learning from the BN faithful and all of the FREE shows.

I am proud to say I've been a donating corporal for the last 2 years and my skill level wouldn't be what it is today without the BN and all it has to offer, especially the camraderie and joy!

I have been fortunate to be able to enjoy the NHC and compete for the last 2 years with many highlights some being BNA6 and serving Elysian Beer at BNA7. I have met so many fantastic people who love eachother, especially here at the BN. I am always thinking of my military brothers and sisters who are on patrol as we write these posts and who have fallen and won't be coming home to their families or get to enjoy these homebrew events with us. I ask for calm and perspective. We are all good people, just some lack an understanding and grace. And we could misunderstand reactions. Everyone builds a strong pride and kinship in being part of a club, much like the military in most respects. We can sometimes be very passionate at defending such things.

Since I am a member of 3 clubs: The BN Army, Greater Everett Brewer's League, Beer Renegades of Everett Washington it is very hard for me to fly a single flag when I compete. Last year I was able to list two clubs as I competed and won a ton of awards http://www.wahomebrewers.org/waha-home/146?task=view This year I just listed GEBL.

Bottom line is I have learned a lot from everyone in my 3 clubs, I've enjoyed fantastic times and homebrew with a lot of you. My NHC Gold Medal, Cider Maker of the Year and all the other awards I've ever won in Washington State, MCAB, and elsewhere are all shared by all of you.

You all rock! The BN rocks and will continue to grow!

Uh, did I discuss Wes Anderson films with you in the hospitatlity suite?!?!

Anyway, yeah, I learned how to brew from Palmer, homebrewtalk.com and listening to the BN broadcasts. So many of us who do have clubs of our own consider the Brewing Network our second club. I know there was plenty of support coming your way from the MadZ's table!

I am in 4 clubs now, 5 if you count WAHA as a club (we kinda act like it) and I consider the BN as one of them (I wouldn't be an admin here if I felt otherwise).

I thought the week rocked. The BN party was great. I'm really looking forward to next year when I don't have to lift a finger and can sit back and just be a fucking attendee.
Highlights:

a) Guiding Dirk McLargeHuge & SGT Satan in via text message as they made their way across country. It was awesome when they pulled into the gas station right down the street from my house and I handed them 2 local beers. They then followed me right to the Taphouse for 160 tap handles of liquid dinner.

b) The BN party - My only complaint is that I didn't get to hang out with as many folks as I wanted, though I got to see a lot of them as I poured beers and popped cans a good chunk of the night. I was pleasantly surprised by the Churchkey Pilsner, too.
Moscow is a great guy and it was good to see Shat and Schuman again, too.

c) Most of the conference was a blur. Lots of pouring beers and fighting little fires (but compared to some of the forest fires some of the other guys were facing my job was a walk in the park).

d) Seeing Terrence The Black & Beevo's babies wearing a baby-sized Asshat made my fucking week. :asshat: (I saw both of them wear the same asshat at one point or another during the banquet).

e) Talking to some guy in the hospitality suite for 20 minutes only to find out it was TheDarkSide and we've been shooting the shit together online for God knows how long. Great to finally meet you in person bro!

f) Just walking around and seeing so many familiar faces from past NHC's & GABFs, like Chaz, Brewtat2, Dirk, SGT Satan, Aquarium Drinker, Thuglas, etc, etc, etc. It's almost like time hadn't passed by since last time.

g) Being able to share my (and my club's) home brew with everyone is an awesome feeling, especially when it's the guys you learned it from, like Jamil. We used his stout recipe (but didn't scale it down to 5 gallons) and then ran it through a Randall filled with whole coffee beans, Cacao nibs, and Centennial. (He seemed to really like it.)

h) Seeing so many friends winning medals and club of the year - priceless

Downers:
Mylo, Whitebeard, Badrock, Bugeater, Rhino, Blober, Capt Carrot, etc, etc, etc - we really missed you guys. See you in Philly! I am not volunteering for jack shit next year, (other than judging the competition), so it's gonna be great to just be an attendee.

Prosit!

You forgot to mention that the BN Club rocked the Club Night. We poured some of the best beers in the house. The lines proved it. Except for Justin's beer...
