For most homebrewers I would definitely agree. BJCP is much more appropriate. However, in my job as the "Beer Consigliere" for my company this has a lot of use. I spend a lot of time helping our customers craft beer menus and hosting beer dinners.

I'm thinking about going to this... I've always wanted to go to Washington DC and this would be a good excuse to go.

I am giving it serious thought, I used to live in DC and it's a good excuse to go see a bunch of friends. Things are in flux right now so I can't commit yet, but I hoping to work out the details soon.
