Brother Thelonious

Fri Nov 19, 2010 4:10 pm

I had this at a beer festival a while back, and got my hands on a 750ml. I've been waiting for a special occasion, and I think the "weekend" is it. Any other fans out there? This is probably one of my favs. :pop

I have a couple cases but so far it has not grabbed me. I'll keep trying it.

The first time I had it I did not read the ABV% Two bottle in and I could barely get out of my chair. Not to mention I was drinking it on an empty stomach. I do think its a fine abbey ale.

It's one of my favorites also, I think it's an outstanding beer. I wish I could afford to drink it more often. Monk's music ain't too shabby either! One of my favorite songs is "Straight, No Chaser".

As long as we are giving opinions....

Brother Thenlonius is the best American made Belgain dark strong style ale. I love the stuff. Prankster, North Coast's Golden strong ale is very good as well. I prefer it over Russian River's Damnation.

When my daughters were little, I used to make up words to Monk's tunes to fit their lives and sing them to them. The girls loved these songs and as they got older and heard the original versions, they were eventually able to recognize Monk's style, even if they had never heard the song before. A few years later they started helpng me brew beer. Due to this, they are able to recognize beer styles better than most their ages. Now, as they commute to college from home, we can enjoy homebrew and Monk together. Life is good! :jnj
