Pre-Staging recipes?

How does everyone do theyre recipes. Do you look up your recipe, the start retriving and measuring barley and hops? Or do you pre sort a recipe.

I used to do the prior of running here and there in the kitchen measuring and weighing, but what ive found works dandy for me is to plan my next three or four brews, measure out all the grain and hops, then basically assemble them into kits, package them in boxes and then when brew day comes, i simply grab the box, open up and all my needs are right there. Basically making your own kit. I have several tupperware bins from wally world that work great for assembling everything. Whats your style-beside no pants, thats a given

That's basically what I do Crut. And then on brew day I get a stack of those small plastic bathroom-rinse-after-brushing cups and measure out my hops, Whirlfloc, spices, etc and write the addition times on the side. I've gotten much better at not forgetting things doing this.

i've been rotating a sack of base malt and then picking recipes to make for the last couple of years. i usually do maris otter in the fall/winter and around march i get a bag of pilsner to start making oktoberfests/hefes/wits. then i get a bag of 2-row and start on pale ales/ipas/ambers. i'll go to the lhbs for yeast and hops and any specialty grains i need after i pick what i want to make for the next brew or 2. i don't gear up for competition season so i just brew what i want based on whatever bag of base malt i have at that time. not very organized but it works for me.

I've just put together a Brewing forward planner, I've more or less worked out in advance what I am going ot brew for the year. Its a combination of things I just want to brew, timing brews so that the beer is at its peaks for the competition season in October and making sure that I don't forget to brew (on time) things like Dry Stout for St Pats day (brew it early feb!!) or an Australian Pale Ale for Australia Day (should have brewed it in December)etc etc

So I'm thinkng that your idea of pre-assembling kits could really help me stick to my schedule and not be overly tempted to just brew any old thing.

thanks for the idea

It seems I change my mind about what I am brewing to often. So. I usually put my ingrediants together the night before I brew. I have all my grains sorted in bins, I pull the grains I am going to need, set up my scales, weigh everything out, and then crush the night before I brew. The last brew I did, I changed literally at the last moment when swmbo told me she was out of her red ale, thankfully I had the right yeast going on the stir plate.
