I paid a visit to New Belgium about a month ago. I had a glass of 1554 while talking with one of the brewers. I mentioned to him that I detected a slight smokiness in it. He said he did too. He wouldn't say what they may have done to get that, but he did hint that they did recently change the recipe.

Folks may want to check the taste from a fresh batch to see if they catch that change too. Myself, I liked the one I tried better than the original.

Anyone try this adding some smoked malt, as Bugeater suggested to the brewer?
