hopbursting denny's rye

Sat Mar 14, 2009 10:12 am

I'm brewing for the first time in the last year!!! I've settled on Denny's rye IPA, but I would like to try hop bursting. I want to keep all of my hop additions inside 30 minutes. Possibly even 20 minutes. I would also like to keep the IBU's around 70-75. I have 8 oz. of Amarillo, 10 oz of Mt. Hood, 16 oz. of Summit. I also have in my stock Willamette, and Fuggle. I have the following for my recipe thus far. Please give me your suggestions.

uhh, you're brewing for the first time in the last year? Are you from the future? I need some help, who wins the next Super Bowl!

Actually, I really like the beer the way it is. Have you brewed it how its supposed to be first? I dont know what hob bursting would do to it. It's already hoppy and flavorful. But if you do do it, please send me a bottle!
I'm smelling a lot of IF comming offa this plan!

I'm not changing it because I don't like it, I just want to try hop bursting. This seems like the perfect time to do it. I want a nice hoppy IPA (or Rye IPA as I've decided) for the coming spring. I have an IPA recipe that I love, but it would require me to buy all of the hops. With Denny's recipe I can use the back stock that I already have (which really need to be used soon.). Because I have a fair sized back stock of hops I can try hop bursting with it too.

The reason I'm doing 9 gallons is because of mash tun space, and also because if I hop burst it I suspect that the whole hops will take up a good amount of volume in my kettle.

edit: I meant in my previous post that it's been almost 1 year exactly since I last brewed.
