recipe reduction question

Im an extract brewer who Just picked up brewing classic styles. The recipes call for 7 gallons of water but im only able to brew with 6. whats best way to adjust recipe? :jnj

You can typically use a linear reduction. If you post the recipe I'd help you reduce it if it would help.

Yeah, differences in volume are linear. Differences in efficiency are reflected on base malt only. Specialty malts and adjuncts remain the same.

pilsner LME 3.3lbs
light LME 3.3lbs
rice syrup 1.7lbs

hops:
1.0 oz liberty 4% AA 60 min
0.5 oz liberty 4%AA 1 imn

yeast:
Whie Labs california (2 vials)

2.75 of each lme
1.42 of rice syrup

.83 liberty for 60
.42 liberty for 1

That is assuming that you are going from a 6 to 5 gallon batch.

also, depending on the style, if the all grain recipe wants you to mash low like at 149, I suggest and have had success subbing .5 to 1 lb of sugar for a porportionate amount of extract.
