Honey Nut Beerio's

Sun Sep 21, 2008 5:50 pm

sitting in my living room this morning, drinking coffee, obviously with beer on my mind, i decided to look through the pantry. What can i put into beer? little things here and there that sets no alarms off, then i see it. The box of honey nut cheerio's. Brilliant I think. I have no clue how this recipe will work, but heres what i think will be decent. I was looking through the ingredients part while working up the recipe too. Thoughts or concerns?

The only concern I'd have is what effect the oils from the nuts will have on head retention.

I think I heard of someone mashing a bunch of fruit loops. A cereal mash for this type of thing goes without saying.... but I just did.

Good luck.

Wait, I didn't see any cheerios in the recipe. If you are gonna make a beer called beerios, its gotta have some cheerios in it.

Thanks for pointing that out Lars... I just scanned the top of Crut's post and assumed that he was throwing in some cherios from his pantry.... That's what I get for not reading the whole thing.

actually i plan on NOT using cheerios just because of the "extras" in the cheerios ingredients section. I dont think i want all the preservatives in my beer.

Im not really concerned about the head retention of the roasted nuts, thats why im roasting them, to release some of the oils. I dont really think what little oil will be present will cause that big of a problem.

What im really looking for is more of a honey and nut flavor with some toasted hunts thrown in.

Also, talking with our brewer tony at work, after the hot underage dishwasher chick came in and sold cookies, im now onto making a recipe for white chocolate macadamia cookie recipe too

after looking at this recipe and seeing what i actually have in stock, im in a bit of a pickle.
I have everything except for the wheat malt. however, i do have 7lbs of wheat malt extract. Any idea of a ratio between grain and extract? And when would i add it to the boil?
i really want to brew this beer this weekend, but i know the LHBS doesnt carry wheat malt.
