I almost always do 90 min boils, strictly for O.G. purposes. Has always worked for me, and I don't think I get much carmelization, if any.

I got very good flavor, but for me the color is too dark.
I made a 3 gal batch and added a bit of Victory as well.
I only used 1.25 oz of 500L Roast, ground up fine, and I got 16.8 SRM which is too dark for me. Almost dark brown.
And, no head retention (after 10 days conditioning) so next time I will use some Flaked barley.
And, next time I will shoot for about 14SRM...
