campden tablet conversion to powdered k-meta

Does anyone know how much one campden tablet will crush up into volume wise? curious how much of a tsp as I have powdered k-meta to treat my water and wanted to use the proper amount for dechloramination.

One standard campden tablet is .44 grams of potassium metabisulfite (Kmeta). (They do come in other sizes, so check yours closely.)

1 teaspoon of Kmeta is about 5 grams.

So, 5 / .44 = 11.363636....... campden tablets per teaspoon.
BUT! measuring has some error involved, so go by the standard answer of 10 campden tablets equals 1 teaspoon of Kmeta.

Always weigh! That being said, never had to worry about it so I've never had campden tabs laying around to weigh.

You're not going to hurt your water that much if you overdose. There will just be a tiny bit extra sulfate in there.

yeah i see what you mean. i ended up just using 1/16 tsp for just shy of 10 gallons of water. Even that was overdosing but it sure beats measuring out individual grains! Truly amazing how fast it cleans up the water too.
