Whatever happened with this???? I am in a similar boat now... I got a huge 800 ml slurry from a local brewpub and it froze in my garage. What was your results?

Over the weekend, I read a thread on another forum where several people have pitched yeast that had frozen into starters and it worked fine. Fermentation started within 24 hours.

Most of this thread took place before the Jan. 09 White bro's yeast show. I think the question was posed, what happens if the vial freezes in transit and whatnot...

If I recall correctly, one of the Whitey's said that you will loose about 10-15% of the total cell count when frozen in this manner, but that if the vial was highly viable, you should be fine w/ a starter.

I was surprised by this answer... but it came from the horses mouth. I was always under the impression that the majority of the cells would have been destroyed. Apparently I'm not as smart as the whites :lol: :lol: :lol:

I think the key is to just toss it in a starter, and if it looks good/strong enough, go ahead and pitch that shit.
