Because I have 2 crap ass LHBS's!

Tue Apr 03, 2007 6:58 am

Can someone tell me where I can find the O-Ring that you use for the dip tube on a corny keg other than a LHBS? I need to see if I can find some around my town because the 2 so called HBS's(they cary all the preppy wine shite) don't ever have any... one said "what's that?" and the other keeps saying they are on order...bullshit! I try to be a good local citizen and buy from the guys around my area but it always seems the don't have what I am looking for. Neither are convenient to get to either. I love the big online shops and buy from them often but $.50 O-ring shipped from California is ridiculous. I should be able to find a common item like that locally.

Does it sound like I'm ranting?! I am!!!

Sorry for the rant but if anyone can help that would be great.

Thanks,

Rob

I fully understand your frustration 2dog. My LHBS is awesome, don't get me wrong, the people are great and I belong to their brew club. But it can be very frustrating sometimes because they just don't carry a lot of thing's I'd like to incorperate into my brewhouse. Their just very limited and kind of stuck in the homebrew world of the 70's. Kind of archaic. Unfortunatly I have to order a lot on line but the guys at B3 are great and I relly don't mind spreading my buisness to them. I let my LHBS know when I think they need to carry something and for the most part they accomodate by adding it to their supply or special ordering it for me. I also let them know that when they don't I have to order it from their competition. It then becomes their choice.

Good luck!

Just about any good hardware store will carry them. The larger ACE Hardware stores carry a good selection of O-rings. Just take the old ring and/or dip tube in with you to make sure you get the right size.

Do you need to worry about getting food-grade rings (assuming they exist)?

Thanks J. Brew, I throw business from B3 when I can (bought my kegging set up from them) because they are about the best selection and customer service.

The one shop in the area is a father and son place and they do there best but either they don't have room for inventory of don't want to carry it. The other is much better and has a ton of basic stuff and some advanced but it just seems they are close but not quite there with regards to equipment and supplies. They seem to be almost unfriendly at times and for some who has the Irish Gift of Gab that's a death sentence in it self.

I do have a great place for hops, grains and yeast that isn't a home brew store per say, it's actually a bottle shop with a wall of home brew stuff. Actually this place has more useful to me than the so call "home brew" stores. The owner is a home brewer and seems to try and carry as much as he can afford to with limited space and I thank him. The place is called E.B.I and it's in Saratoga NY if anyone lives around there it's my choice for grain, yeast and hops. He also has lots of great craft beer and imports.

I guess I am expecting more heart from the other guys than I get because I have it for the hobby and I think they should too.

Bug, I found some at the hardware store, thanks.

mfischer2, I thought the same thing but for these, they don't ever touch the beer so I wouldn't think it matters... I hope anyway.

Thanks All,

Rob
