Running beer line through top freezer

Sun Mar 26, 2006 8:19 pm

Hey Gang, Dimebag here. I asked this question in the chat tonight, but I wasn't sure of the answer (either due to my intoxication or the reponders intoxication :) ).
I have a fridge with a freezer on top that I'm about to use for a kegarator (my first). I was thinking of running the beer line up through the top of the fridge part so that I could drill a hole through the freezer door for the tap (assuming that I could make the freezer the same temp as the fridge). Has anyone else done this? Are there problems in terms of resistance that I could run into? Comments???

Hey Dimebag,

I'm pretty sure that the freezer temp is colder because:
1 - more coils ruinning through it
2 - less insulation

SO, you're probably going to have trouble making it the same temp as the fridge.

Also, there probably are coils running through the bottom of the freezer/top of the fridge, so you'd have to drill CAREFULLY.

Any reason you don't want to just go through the Fridge door? The main reason people do this is to avoid hitting coils...

Hey Rob. Thanks for the info. I was thinking of trying to mount the tap at a decent height, but was worried my tap handles would prevent the freezer door from opening. So I thought running the tap through the freezer door might be a good solution. I guess not. I'll probably end up going through the fridge door. I'll post a pic when I get it set up.
