Okay, I know this is old - but the fining and filter show was just on...
I purchased a MiniVino filter, I know expensive - but I got a hell of a good deal on it. It's job in life was to filter my white wines - but I found it one day looking at some cloudy beer and it said I can make you clear. Soon I found I was hooking up the filter between two kegs and fipping the switch on.
Okay - little background on the minivino. This is a 3 filter plate system that is a little "open" meaning you will get some bleeding out around the edges. The filter media is .5 micron, 1 micron, and 6 micron. They are $3.50 for a set at morebeer - they are one time use. This filter has it's own pump (which I really like) so I don't have to play the PSI game pushing beer around. A buddy has one that requires the Positive pressure on the source tank and he hates it.
Anyway, back to the orginal. I ran a Pale Ale thru the filter and I did not notice any drop in character, mouthfeel, or hops level in the beer itself. I found the beer clearer (however it's a little dark) but nothing to the flavor profile. I actually had this on tap with the same beer, and had my neigbor try both - he liked the clearer on (he's a usual BMC canadian) - I explained it's the same beer, he was imparting a visual flavor on the beer.
Also, for the record - I do utilize other finings within the beer before I filter, and no - I don't filter every beer

Except within my liver
