Best source for 2000-4000ml Borosilicate Erlenmeyer?

Thu Feb 28, 2008 9:06 pm

My 1 gallon glass jars have a convex bottom and I guess the fluid dynamics don't allow the stir bars to stay centered over 400 RPM... So, flat bottom erlenmeyer is the way I'm going - probably joining most brewers out there?

I'm looking to snag a few 2000-4000ml Borosilicate erlenmeyer flasks for yeast starters - they don't have to be "Pyrex" brand - actually, I prefer not to pay for the silk-screened name. However, the only ones I've been able to find are over $100 and even I'm not that nuts!!

Anybody have any recommendations on where to find such flasks for a more reasonable price?

I bought a bunch of flasks off of ebay a while back. I got a deal on 4 1000ml and 5 500 ml flasks. I havnt used the 500ml ones but i couldnt pass them up, i got them all for like $20.
Eventually I'll pony up for a nic big 4 or 5 K flask

FWIW - Dr. Scott mentioned in a show a while ago using barbell stir bars for your situation. I'd do that instead. You can have a lot more starters going at once depending on how you brew.

I just scored an extra thick heavy wall 4000ml new flask off of ebay for $12.85 one of my better deals that I have got off of there.
