Converted keg

Whats the benefit of using a converted keg?

They are big, robust and some what available.

It's cheap. I got my kegs for $15 a piece at a scrap yard and another maybe $15 in ball valve and parts. So for about 30 bucks I have a 15 gallon keggle. You can't touch a commercial SS kettle for anywhere near that.

Also they a damn near indestructible. If you are going to do it check this thread for safety advice....

Cheap is the main reason I use them. I got my last keg for $5 on craigslist.

A 15 gal stainless pot can easily cost over $100.

Man lufah and Slurry, i feel bad for you guys paying for your keggles. I didnt pay a dime for any of my three kegs :D , gotta love freebies!
except now all the metals are skyrocketing, and a 1/2" brass ball valve is now upwards of $10-12 dollars around here :evil: oh well, free kegs make up the difference.
