star san in solution... how long does it last??

made up some star san on brew day and stuck it in a carboy that i plan on racking to 6 days from brew day...
Will the star san still sanitize?? Anyone know how long star san is good for after being mixed properly...


I know someone has probably answered this question somewhere around here but im on my 2nd 22 of an amber i made so im too lazy to look..

As long as the solution is not cloudy and the pH is not higher that 3.0, it's fine. If you mix it up with with RO water it will last even longer.

If mixed into distilled water it will last months. I buy gallon jugs of distilled water and mix the Star San right in the jug, then store it in my beer fridge. Then just pour as much as you need into a spray bottle.

Chances are if you used city tap water it will cloud up within the six days.

I did use tap water to make it.. ill see if its cloudy at all when im ready to transfer to the carboy worst case scenario i need to mix up some fresh. guess i should use it to sanatize those 12oz bottles bottles i was too lazy to clean out last month... :roll:

I need to build a keggerator, i hate bottling

Mine gets cloudy from the tap water in just a few hours.

Yeah, that's pretty normal depending on your tap water. Mine does too.

Same here, I thought it was when it becomes clear it loses its potency. I should probably pay more attention to the ph crap though.
