Sanitization Fuck Up

Sat Jan 19, 2008 2:22 pm

So... I was cleaning an airlock to replace the blow off tube with by boiling the parts on the stove... then my roomies decided to make a trip to Taco Bell... well when we got back the water was gone and the airlock too... but now the house is full of smoke... is there anything toxic I should watch out for?

+note to self... don't boil airlocks for sanitization..

So you left a pot of water with an airlock in it boiling while you went to get a bite to eat?

I suddenly feel a whole lot better about the many homebrewing fuck ups I've had. I would probably take this lesson to mean *do not leave the stove on while not at your apartment!" Open a window and you guys should be fine unless you start coughing up blood.

Plastic smoke is toxic, but the amount you're dealing with will probably not be enough to do much harm other than stink up your house for a while.

Open a window or door on the windward side of your place and one on the leeward side, let the air blow through. The bigger problem might be black "cobwebs" on the ceiling, which come from the plastic if it burned hot enough. They make a mess.

Look at the bright side - you didn't come home to this...
