I can't believe it worked the first time!

All this talk about stirplates inspired me to build my own. I hooked it up, plugged it in, and it actually worked! No adjusting or tinkering. I haven't gotten a stir bar yet, but I'll keep y'all updated.

The rare earth magnets that I got at radio shack were a little small, but that is all they had. I'm not quite sure if they are big enough to spin the bar though.

Here is the potentiometer. It is a 5k ohm and it has the same 90% offf 10% sensitive problem, but it works for me.

And here is the stir plate in it's nice little package. I just need to drill a hole in the front to put in the potentiometer.

It's not perfect, but it spins!

What kind of stir bar do you guys recommend? I plan to mostly use a 1000mL flask and maybe a 2000mL flask. I might have to put in a resistor because the power is 12V. What ohm resistor should I add if/when I need to?

Nice, meister. But can you guys seriously stop posting these bad-ass projects here for me to drool over and then start but never finish? Seriously, my brew shed is packed and my foyer is now 50% full with various pump parts, coolers, SS braids, spigots, coils of copper, etc.

The wife is threatening to build a larger shed.

What do you guys think about a 3.7 V power supply? Is that too low? I think the 12 V is too high.
