Hardward Store Vinyl Tubing -- is it ok?

Sat Nov 24, 2007 6:10 pm

I just bought 100' of vinyl tubing at Lowes. The placard in front of the display said it was ok for food, but should not be used with ice makers. But, when I got the original box, there was a California Prop 65 warning. I don't live in CA, so I wasn't familiar with Prop 65, but the warning stated that the product contained known carcinogens and/or caused brith defects.

My intention is to use this as a cold water tubing to get the water from the house spigot to the brew system/water filter.

So, is it safe to use this tubing?

I wouldn't, but if I did it might just improve my beer.

Everything has a prop 65 warning...
If it is food grade it should be ok
They don't want you to use it for Icemakers because of the pressures involved.
My guess is the prop 65 is due to the PVC....
Even some pint glasses with imprints have to have the 65 warning on it because the Ink may have something funky... who is licking the ink.... fucking tree hugging, court abusing, long haired, tofu eating, hippy freaks.

All I have to say is I deal with the prop 65 sticker everyday. The Items I deal with need the label being lead acid batteries. I think that everything going in or out of the state of California gets the prop 65 needed or not. If the label says food safe I say use it.

I think that tubing will be fine for your application, 7seas. That tubing is fine as long as the temp is not over 150. I wouldn't worry about it. You, like me, will probably die from liver failure before we get cancer from the plastic... :)

I have been using that tubing for years I can't taste any differences, and I can still see pretty good, and on the upside my old lady doesn't have to worry about birth control any more.

BS Prop 65

Sun Dec 09, 2007 9:42 pm

Here's the BS behind Prop 65.

1) CA is full of liberal, ignorant, tree huggin' liberals

2) The Governor of CA is required to add a set number of chemicals to the Prop 65 list every year, so eventually water will be on the list

3) This is the best. If you have one of the chemicals on the prop 65 list on your property you have two options. You can place a "prop 65 warning" at your property and your done, or

4) You can spend thousands of dolllars testing the property to see exactly what level of the chemical is present and whether or not is poses a risk to users of the property.

So the bottom line is that EVERY property in CA has a prop 65 warning on it, and it doesn't mean SH!T!!! The signs are so common, I just ignore them. These idiots have completely missed the f'in point.
