temp controlled conical fermenters - user evals

Hey Folks!

I had a VERY good month of sales this last July and have a wad-o-cash burnin' a hole in my pocket and was thinkin' of getting a temp controlled conical (externally cooled) from B3, but in the interest of due diligence, I wanted to poll those that have experience with them. Do they perform as claimed? Is it possible to lager with them? Is it loud? Is it easy to clean/service? Would you do the 7.1 or 12.2 gallon? I'm leaning toward the smaller 7.1 as I doubt I'd be doing that many 10+ gal batches,...and if I did, I'd probably just toss the surplus into a carboy and call it good - variety is a good thing :) I've only done a few batches over 5 gallons (three double-batches of 10 gal.), but having the flexibility of doing temp-controlled 10 gal batches seems pretty cool.

Space in my place is an issue so rather than try and cram a fridge/freezer with a temp controller in here, I thought a temp-controlled conical would work out nicely,... plus I have the cash! :D One thing that concerned me is the look of the stubby little legs on the 7.1 gallon conical,... correct me if I'm wrong, and I hope I am, the legs seem to limit the access you have to the dump valve...? My girlfriend's not a fan of goo on the floor (don't go there! )

In any case, let me know your thoughts and any observations/concerns I might not have thought of. I appreciate your input. Thanks!

Ryan :)
