Hey!

Does anyone of you have some schematics/pictures/how-to's of how to make your own rotating sparge arm?

I would say forget the rotating and just go batch sparge... I have found when I did flysparge that the little sparge arm just pissed me off for going too slow.

A rotating sparge arm is worthless. They don't always spin and they lose heat. I made a copper manifold that sits on top of the grain bed and it works great.

As far as your sparge method, do what you want, both techniques make beer...

Batch Sparging Rules.

I started out with a copper manifold, then purchased a phils rotating sparge arm, then I listened to the pod cast with Denny Conn and decided to give his batch sparge method a try I'm now a batch sparge convert and would never go back. here is a link to his web page http://hbd.org/cascade/dennybrew/
If you want I will send you my phils arm just PM me

Get about 16 to 24 inches of ¼ or 5/16th OD copper tubing cut off 6, 8, or 10 inches depending on how big of a sparge arm you want take the remainder which will be the stem run a length of copper wire up through it and solder it in place being careful not to plug the opening. Drill a hole slightly larger than the outside diameter of the stem in the arm. Then drill a hole the same diameter as the copper wire opposite of the one you just drilled see diagram 1. Then drill a series of small holes starting horizontal and working down one side starting from the stem and working back see diagram 2. Plug both open ends of the arm RTV silicone or solder. Use a piece of PVC wider than the opening of your tun drill a hole wider than the stem run your stem through this and secure it with a grommet or tape or what ever this will hold your arm above grain bed. Connect your sparge water supply to the stem with tubing and sparge away.
