Choice of Cooler

Fri Mar 02, 2007 11:59 am

I am looking for a used cooler but might buy an Igloo Max Cold 50qt rectangular cooler. Would this be OK? Im not sure if some coolers inside design might prevent me from installing a manifold.

Why get a used cooler? That big box store (wal--m-rt) has igloo Ice Cubes for cheap! I got mine for $15.

Tireman, that's a great setup until you want to mash more than 26lbs of grain.

Calculating Grain "Load"

Mon Mar 05, 2007 10:07 am

he said "load"

I've been using a 3 gal Igloo cooler for partial mashes and can get in about 6 lbs of grain using around 1.3 qt/lb. I'm ready to move on up to all grain (I usually only make 5 gal batches) and was wondering how much grain you can mash in one of these 10 gal coolers. Logically I figure up to a little over 18 lbs but wondered what others are getting.

tireman: what did you do to install the tempurature probe? How'd you seal it?
