I think I've found a keg to convert

Thu Feb 15, 2007 1:48 am

Everyday when I walk the dog down by the River Trent here in Nottingham, England I pass a steel keg that has been washed up on the bank. So two questions:

1 - after 4 months on the bank of the river, do you think it's salvagable?
2 - after 4 months on the bank of the river, do you think anyone's gonna really care if I lop the top off and use it in my brewery, or should I do the decent thing and return it from whence it came?

I say finder's keepers... if you are using it for boil it should clean up just fine (assuming STAINLESS STEEL) or whatever you all brits call that.

You would be remiss in NOT cleanng up that river bank a little bit. Think of how much nicer the river will be with out that trashy keg sitting there spoiling the view... oh yeah, cut that bad boy up too... and use it as a brew toy.

Ya, that's what my dog said about the whole affair.

OK then, looks like tomorrow morning I'm coming home with a keg! It does look a bit beat up, but hey, if I can get a HLT out of it then I'll be happy.

And Bub - we call it stainless steel too. In fact, we probably called it that first!

Wow, we were thinking you called it something Stay-in-less Ste-eal. Kind of like al-you-mini-yum

So it is a Trented keg. Sorry.

I agree with everyone else. You're just trying to do your civic duty, right? Just be careful when you're venting that foul thing.

Where are you that a washed up keg stays around for a few months? Sounds fishy (pun intended). You better clean that beast a few times over, then boil some water in it.

I have a keg from Courage thats aluminum. so he could have found an aluminum keg. Washed up on a river?? Id nick it! If it is aluminum it should have a coating on the inside, Wash , sanitize and brew away!
