I've never made beer, only wine and mead etc. I found this 6 liter stainless steel fermenter at a second hand store, came with gasket and airlock, and it has a spigot... looks like a primary fermenter to me, but how do I seal the lid with the gasket properly?

thanks

I haven't seen anything like that before. I wonder if it used to have some kind of strap, or something, that wrapped underneath, or through the handles, to keep the seal tight. You could probably just get away with wrapping the lip with aluminum foil.

I'd take that plastic spigot apart (including the weldless connection), and clean it really well, first.

If it doesn't work out, whatever fermenter you used for wine and mead will work just fine for beer!

Cheers

Just get some clamps to hold it down, like this http://www.amphora-society.com/6-gallon ... r_p_7.html

This is awesome. I never thought about the possibility of fermenting in a stainless pot. Sealing the lid may be challenging but there are so many advantages! I have an old 7.5 gallon brew kettle (which is no longer used since I upgraded to a 16 gallon kettle) that would be perfect for 5 gallon batch fermentation.

Lighter that a carboy, easier to clean, and the stainless will last forever! I'm going to start working on solutions for the seal tonight...
