2 inches deep

Sat Mar 23, 2013 5:30 pm

So my washing machine overflowed today and left my basement filled with 2 inches of water. Luckily most of my brewing equipment was safe or just in need of a little PBW. I'm concerned about my aeration stone. Not sure how wet it got. Can I soak it in PBW and/or boil it or is it a goner?

Just washing machine overflow? With proper cleaning, it's probably fine.

Dirty soapy water that ran over my less than clean unfinished basement floor. PBW cleans everything but the stone is porous. Just concerned PBW would only clean the surface.

When I first read the thread title I was gonna say "man, you got to get in further". Now I can say that if you are concerned, just boil it to be on the safe side.

And if you're as insane as me, you'd follow that 8-10 min boil in a oven on the lowest setting. PBW might be fine, as well as taking the extra step of boiling, but if I already put that into it I'd go the extra step for peace of mind. (This is all assuming it's one of the stainless steel stones, now that I reread the OP)

Lol. Needed a title that would get people to read. I'll definitely use PBW and boil. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy, or cheap, for cleaning it instead of replacing it.

It's a stainless stone from Williams Brewing.

If it wasn't stainless I'd say just trash it & buy a new one, but a soak, boil & bake will make that thing damn near sterile.
