Best barley crushing option?

Thu Nov 15, 2012 9:48 pm

Hello.

I'm on to all grain now, and I am tired of paying extra for crushed malt at my local store. What is the best option for me as far as buying a grain mill? I usually brew once every three weeks and I'm only doing a 5-6 gallon batch.

Thanks.

The barley crusher mill is what I have and it's a nice option. The bigger question is what is your limit to spend. For a bit more the monster mill 2 is available and for a bit over that the monster mill 3. I have brew club friends that have both and I've actually seen the mm3 in action. All 3 are good choices and will probably be the only mill you'll buy in your homebrewing career.

My vote is for the Barley Crusher. It is reasonably affordable and pretty durable. The rollers can be adjusted if need be, and a larger hopper can be purchased although the regular size is just fine for me.
