Capper/corker

Tue Mar 13, 2012 5:26 am

I want to get a read on what people are using to cap and cork their bottles. The little Red Baron that came with my starter kit is starting to be kind of a PITA, especially for non-standard, not 12 ounce bottles. I like to reuse my 22 oz bombers and belgian bottles, and this guy has a really hard time with them. What do you people use, what do you like? Do any of you use one tool for both capping and corking?

I have a bench capper for capping and the portugese corker for the belgian bottles. The bench capper is a huge plus with all the different sized bottles and you can even do it with one hand if its fixed to a bench.

The Italian floor corker has an add on capper attachment. However, it runs ~$140 compared to the ~$60 for Portuguese and ~$15 for Emily capper.

I use the Super Colonna capper/corker. It came with a26mm capping bell for regular bottles, a 29 mm bell for capping champagne bottles, and a corking attachment for $70. Works great

I've used a Colonna for corking. If you plan to cork a lot of Belgian bottles, buy a floor corker. The Colonna can be a pain to work with because you need to remove the late under the bottle and work the bottle out carefully after every single bottle.
