Using Johnson Control to Heat

Fri Dec 16, 2011 3:20 pm

I have the Johnson Control A19AAT-2. I've used it for running a frig, so it turns on when unit gets warm. Can it be changed to turn on when unit gets to cold? Would like to use it to run a light bulb to keep something warm.

Apparently that unit has a spst contact that opens when temperature rises to the set point. Thus it's suitable, as is, only for controlling cooling. You could conceivable use it to operate a relay with NC contacts. When the temperature drops the Johnson contacts would open which would de-energize the relay clsoing it's contacts and operating the heater. A bit klugey but workable. There are plenty of controllers out there designed to control heating loads.

Remove the cover; there is a jumper that you can move to change it to heat mode. Page 7 of the pdf.

Alas no. That pdf is for A419 series controls which have SPDT swtiches. OP has an A419 which has a SPST switch and is designed for cooling loads only.
