I just bought that pot today at my LHBS. That ring around the pot at the handle line is actually 1/2 smaller in diameter than the rest of the pot so a full width false bottom wouldn't work. You may be best off using a screen on your pickup tube. I'm going to reuse the ABT false bottom out of the Sanke keg I've been using. A convex(?) type mash tun type perforated screen should work also. Like these:

Sorry, you said "make" one. I've seen screens made out of the stainless mesh from the outside of washing machine hose. Slitted copper tubing manifolds. Junket posted pictures of stainless mesh screen he folded to strain out matter. I don't remember what the thread was. For the bayou pot you could make a raised false bottom of perforated stainless but with a hinge so it can be slipped inside to fill the full diameter of the bottom. Let's see those suggestions and pic soldiers!

Try a domed splatter screen like this.

I used one of these as a false bottom in a sanke keg mash tun I built a couple years ago. With that notch in the side I was able to get it into the keg even though the opening was slightly smaller than the diameter of the screen. These come in various sizes so just do a google search for the term "domed splatter screen".

Hey Capt., Who do you consider your LHBS? Just wondered what is the closest for you out in Ingleside.

I shop at Perfect Brewing in Libertyville. They have a large inventory and are great folks to work with. Their prices are good too. Are you in Lake County?

I get most of my stuff from them too. I am just off of 45 right on the edge of Gurnee and Grayslake.

Hate to thread jack :gun , but I saw your Steinbeer experiment pics. I wouldn't mind getting together to tag along for an AG session some time.
