Stir Plate in progress

Well I've got all the hardware to make my home made stir plate

here are the guts while I was bench testing them

Image

tomorrow I will mount everything in the box and them mount the magnets to the fan

so far I have $23 into the project - beats the hell out of $165 for a commercial one

That looks very familiar - I just built one similar about 2-3 weeks ago. :D

This is the Pictoral Step-by-Step I used for reference, in case anyone is looking.

$35 vs $165. Agreed!

Would that power adapter be from some sort of Linksys product? Looks familiar.

I just made two stir plates by "borrowing" the design of mounting pvc instead of hanging the fan. I went with the pot instead of the resistor design.
Here's a look at the design I borrowed - http://www.stirstarters.com/instructions.html

i bought a lightly used corning 10x10 hotplate/stirrer on ebay for $35. it's a beast and corning's are workhorses. we had one in lab that had been on stir mode for 4 straight years and still going. kinetics on that reaction were a little slow. 10x10 is perfect for 5000ml flasks.

one of my brewing buddies worked at a lab that shut down and he hooked me up with 3 stir plates...
