Cold Condition in a keg?

Mon Aug 17, 2009 1:18 am

High. I just got my first kegging set up, and im well excited. My question is, can i CC in a keg? If yes would i just add the appropriate amount of C02 to carb it up or leave it uncarbed? Thanks.

The answer to both questions is yes.

You can do it either carbed or uncarbed. If you choose to not carbonate it right away, you will still need to and enough CO2 to keep it sealed after the temperature of the beer drops to that of the cooler and absorbs some of the gas. I generally just stick the keg in the kegerator to condition with the gas hooked up. That way it is fully carbed when it is finally ready to drink.

+1 to what Wayne said. Also, for beers that I plan to bottle condition, but still want to fine, keg (cold) condition, etc... I pressurize the headspace with nitrogen. That way I can keep a good seal and still have the beer be totally flat, which helps for getting your bottled CO2 volumes correct.
