Bung in the fermenter?

Sun Aug 02, 2009 7:45 am

Brewed last night and it was not my best effort. Mash temp a little high so I added ice cubes to cool it down..... got to 174° of my fucking sparge... hit 69% efficiency after 4 beers between 79-81.5%... OG too low for style because of it... I did nail my pH though.

Anyway. WHen putting my Star-San soaked bung into the carboy, the little fucker went in like a fucking grenade. So there is sits on the bottom of fermenting beer.

Will this bung impart any rubbery flavor in the beer? It is a hefeweizen.

If I had a nickel for everytime I read a thread where someone ends up with a bung or grommet in their beer, I would have somewhere between 20 to 30 nickels.

I did this myself on my first batch evah. It will be fine. I've never heard of any off flavors or anything else bad happening because of it. As long as it was clean, which you said it was.

I figured it was fairly common but I like to hear it from the crowd.

What Chef Chris said. I'd have about $1.45.

Done it, beer was fine.
