Cleaning IC in PWD

Sat Jul 11, 2009 7:49 pm

After 13 brews and rinsing off my immersion chiller after each brew, I figure it might be better to soak it in some PWD left over from today for a deep cleaning. The IC is boiled during each brew session and stored away clean, but might not be a bad idea to deep clean it as well every now and then?

Every time I am pouring PWD there is a small cloud of fines that blow up and gets in my nose and makes me sneeze. Should I keep my nose away when pouring this stuff, or is it benign?

What's PWD? I've never heard of it.

I wouldn't bother with an extra cleaning unless the chiller is dirty. If you have hop matter left on it or weird colored oxidation then certainly clean it up. Mine comes out of the kettle pretty clean, so I just hose it off and scrub off any hop matter.
