Cleaning new t me used carboys

Wed Jun 17, 2009 2:34 pm

I have a couple 6.5 that I bought out of the back of a slow moving van at a traffic signal in LA. I have no idea what was in these before but he mumbled acid as he fled with my $20. They look clean and smell OK. The seller said they were cleaned but I have no idea if these were transporting sulfuric acid or not. Historically, I would use baking soda to neutralize sulfuric acid. Since I clean in my :nutters: I want to be as safe as possible but mainly don't want to have to blow the :unicornrainbow: (again) to kill the taste of skank beer.

Any experience / advise for other ways to clean and neutralize the bad stuff.

I was trying not to mention the meth residue.

Hey, it's glass. Soak the things in PBW overnight and you ought to be good. Besides, if they were acid carboys they're as clean as they'll ever be (no organic and no heavy metals!).

I am hoping to brew my first beer soon. If this does not work out, I'll look into meth but only a hoppy batch.

I would recommend watching Breaking Bad on AMC.
