Mash Stirrers

Wed Feb 04, 2009 6:03 am

So I built a mash stiring arm connected to a gear head electric motor. Took a little time to make but it came out well. Intitial testing has proven ( at least in my system) that it doesn't change efficientcy at all. I had some thoughts that maybe there was some untapped goodness hidden in the areas of my mash that were not being used due to maybe channeling of strike water or who knows what.

In short the thing looks cool and makes doughin easier as I don't have to stir the grain in. But thats it.

Oh yeah, thanks to bugeater, he mentioned that this may be the case, he was right.
Prost!

you know, if you recirculate that'll help efficiency AND convert way faster. i recirculate and get 80+ percent eff. AND convert in 15-20 minutes. it doesn't take much either, i recirculate about the same flow as my sparge.

I have determined that I am going back to a recirc system. I used to in the past with clear runoff and better temp control. Thanks all.

I bet you get a more homogeneous and consistent mash with a stirrer. There's a reason they use them in pro breweries.
