I've hit the motherload!

Fri Jan 23, 2009 4:57 pm

So I've had a run of luck that I can only describe as karma for a life of crappy luck. started about two months ago... my Girlfriend's brother used to brew. He no longer does and he kept trying to sell me his equipment. Well, I didn't need most of it but I wanted the kegs, Co2 tanks and carboys. He wanted to sell everything as a package, A lot of redundant equipment made this a no go for me. Well, I guess I waited long enough because he just gave me everything and said, "just brew me a beer every once in a while"... the take: 8 cornies, 3 gallon pot, 10# and 5# co2 tanks, 3 6.5 gallon carboys, 2 5 gallon carboys and a lot of miscellaneous equipment including ball locks etc.BIG take!

Fast forward to about two months ago. I look on craigslist and see a 3" tower extension to take my kegerator from 2 to 3 taps. Best of all, $25. SCORE!

About a month ago my mom was getting rid of some stuff, including two chest freezers, free. SCORE! Fits six cornies off the hump, but with some modification to the lid now fits 8 cornies in one. The other freezer is hop storage and where I freeze ice for my fermentation chambers.

Today I ask my girlfriend to stop and get an exchange on the 10# co2 tank. They are out of 10# tanks. Crap that sucks, I have 6 beers in my new keezer needing to be carbed. Then the good news. The guy swapped the tank for a 15#... FREE upgrade! I got a 15# tank for less than I swap out my 10# for at the brew shop.

Man, It's a good season for scores in brewing.

I've been brewing my butt off for two months, the tally is at 15 gallons in my kegerator, thirty gallons in the keezer, another twenty gallons fermenting and ten more on the way tomorrow.
WHEW!!! :jnj :drink

Also, about two weeks ago, a brewery went out of business locally. I got to check out the stuff the were liquidating... I got a 33" stainless steel driptray like they sell at micromatic for $15 and a spare propane tank (full) for $20.

How do you fit 30 gallons of beer up your ass? Have you been hanging out with JP?

When you get married, the blowjobs will stop too.

It's funny because it's true! I got lucky and I'll be honest there. She's super cool about stuff related to brewing. I plan to hold off for a little longer to bask in the beauty that is pre-marriage.

I will try to post pics tonight of the work in progress keezer. I am really proud of her. There's a little nod to the BN in her. I don't think I could take full credit for what poured from her eventually without acknowledging the contributions of the BN. We'll see how the run at NHC and the state fair go this year.

Mylo, have you seen this thread?http://www.thebrewingnetwork.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=12658?

Here's some pics to show where I'm at... It's definitely a work in progress. Shanks are coming next weekend.

The Keezer is done in chalkboard paint as is pretty evident. I really like the idea, But I am going to top the top with brushed stainless steel in a sheet and cover the edges with some molding that come flush with the collar. LIke I said it's a wok in progress, but It should only take another couple months to be fully complete. Functional and drinking however is the priority... next weekend at the latest  :jnj
nod to the BN. I made that stencil from scratch... about four hours work cutting tape etc. Theres another on the other end but It's covered at the moment by the other kegerator

Ideas or feed back on the keezer are more than welcome. I have am assload (30 gallons) more pics of the garage but I'll post everything when I'm done. For now I'm rinkin!

It appears that the shelf holding the cornies isn't a load bearing shelf.

 you noticed huh? It came with the house and is empty and cleaned corny storage. No real weight to speak of, it look like that without anything on it too.
