How to Covert a Keg

I understand the cutting and drilling of the keg.

What do you have to do to turn them into a mash tun or boil kettle, or liquor tank?

Trying.... to.... avoid.... sarcasm.......... can't.... fight.... it.... ahhhh

Well, besides the spigots, lids, and some sort of manifold/false bottom on the mash - nothing else is necessary. Sight gauges, thermometers, thermowells are all optional. Implement at your discretion.

Ok, then what do you use for lids on the keg?

Well, if you cut it cleanly with either a plasma cutter, or the (recently discussed) "cutting wheel on a 4.5 inch grinder w/jig" method (a.k.a my preferred method), then you can have tabs welded onto the the cutoff and use that. Since I was able to dial in the exact radius with the jig, I sized mine for exactly 12", and bought some regular stainless pot lids at Crate and Barrel.

How concerned should I be with dents?

There are two dents on the keg Ive got but not sure when to consider the dents a problem?

It depends what you are using it for.... but you really shouldn't be concerned at all with dents.

I converted a keg into a Mashtun, on the cheap cheap..... with a sawzall, a few proper drill bits and a stainless coupler kit from NB (with a bazooka T).... and I can clear 75% effeciency, with no problem, as long as I keep my pH in check.

Have fun... hope you acquired your keg legally  8)

How refreshing to read an entire thread about converted kegs and not one mention of The-Word-That-Must-Never-Be-Said. :pop
