Yes, I said love probe........

I have been really busy and have not finished making my thermowells.
Can I just place the love controller probes, unprotected in the mash and h2o in the hlt?

I don't think that's such a hot idea. They really aren't rated to be submerged. That being said, I have put one into some ice pack gel in a White Labs tube. So far so good, but I'm still skeptical.

I would get some sort of thermowell sorted out for the HLT and mash - even if it is a copper pipe with a cap on it.

Or flex copper pipe with end flattened and soldered shut.

That's what I use for my HLT. The end is flared and top of cooler is cut so it drops right in through the lid.

Thanks to all who replied.

I started to do a quickie fix
unbend some copper from a failed chiller idea, cap one end and hang the other out the top
Home Depot had other ideas, no copper caps to fit my copper

Fortunately they had the fittings I was missing

I got one done, I'll finish the other tommorrow and pickle them.

Careful... that depends on the probe.

The standard 60" probes that came with Love's 2 years ago could not be fully submersed. The tip was fine, but if you put the whole thing in it was done. Ask me how I know.

I think if you just put in the tip you are fine but if you put the whole thing in you may have trouble...
