I would say that if it were to be used as a gravity system, you probably need a valve at the bottom of your kettle (as opposed to using a racking cane), and it might even be better to pre-fill the thing with wort in addition to the hops. We did turn the thing on its side part way through, which seemed to help, but ultimately we had to give up on the thing.

Oh well, we were talking about buying a pump anyway.

I have used my hop rocket as a randal and it was AWESOME!!!!

I brewed a beer (pale ale-ish) with no hop additions after 30 min. I put 3oz of citra whole cone in the HR and filled it with beer. At first it was quite foamy and very grassy. after two days, the amount of hop aroma that is added to the beer is tremendous! I didn't have that much foaming issue that i thought i would have. I generally pour off an inch of beer from a tap and just dump in the sink and then fill my pint glass (without the HR). With it hooked up I saw a quite blast of CO2 and a bit of foam followed by a few seconds of foam, but then beer came out.

In my case, a very fast turn-around! I need to say I live an hour away from Lafayette, IN, where this was sent. But, I sent the screen in Monday afternoon, registered mail, return receipt. (I like to do this as someone has to sign for it, so I know they received it) Well, I just came home today (Wednesday) and a Fedex package was on my porch. It's the new HR part all right. Hard to believe. Just as pictured. I'm glad to see Blichmann has stood by their product. There are many of us who have experienced less than satisfactiry performance, so a fix was needed. The quick turn-around was a very pleasent surprise. I got the package BEFORE I got the signed receipt for delivery!

Looking forward to giving the modified HR a try.

PS: Just got the mail, return receipt was singed by J. Blichmann himself. Seems like he's really on this issue.

I received my replacement part very quickly as well - a matter of days.
Can't say enough good things about John Blichmann....

My only wish was that the Boilermakers were welded instead of weldless - I'd have three.

Has anyone used the new hop rocket high flow filter yet?

I just used my older HR last night for the first time with 3 oz of leaf hops and it took almost an hour to get 12 gallons thru it to the chiller and fermentor... Got caught by surprise on that....

Few Questions:
[*]It looks like the larger filter housing will reduce the maximum amount of hops you can now add to the HR.....[/*]
