Lars how many watts is the Peltier Junction?
And are you going to build a 1 or multi-carboy chamber?

I've a really nice Scythe Katana Cu HSF and some decent sized aluminum heatsinks...
but i'm really uncertain about the peltier... 50w, 80w, higher?

BugeaterBrewing -- looking forward to the picks :)

Also, for the insulation, would doubling up the 2" foamboard be worth the extra cash?
I was also wondering if a 2nd layer were added, would it be even better
to use some 3/8" x 3/8" x height sticks to create a pocket of air
in between the two layers of foamboard?

I can get a temperature of 38F in my SoFC. This is with 4 gallons of ice changed daily in a high 70s room.

As for the wattage of the TEC, a lot of people have had sucess with the IceProbe They have used these in contact with a liquid. My thoughts are to use 2 TECs sandwich together to get a higher differential between the ambient temperature and the cooler temperature, say two 80 watt coolers.

As for the box construction i would use 2" foam especially if its going to sit in a warm place. The air pocket wont add much r value, maybe 1. My box has a R value of 10 with 2" of foam so the air pocket would only add 10%.

I just picked up the materials for my cooler yesterday. I will be using 1.5" blue insulation board for mine. In my design it makes things a little simpler. I have 2 40mm TEC chips that I will be using. I got a great deal on two 168 watt chips. I know that is overkill so I will be switching them separately. I'm sure that one will be plenty for maintain fermentation temps. I figure I may need the second one for lagering, but then maybe not. We will see once I get it built.

I am building a small control box/panel to house the control switches, pilot lamps and a digital temperature display. I think I will call it the Binford 150 since it will be the economy version of PE's Binford 2000. :D

I have very large heat sinks and 120 VAC muffin fans sitting here in my junk box.

Not yet. I have the day off tomorrow, so I plan to work on it some more. At the rate I move, I probably won't have this thing done for a couple more weeks.
