Mexican,

When you say plastic QDs, are you talking the expensive polysulphone ones from the LHBS, or is it still garden hose connectors, but the plastic ones??

Plastic garden hose disconnects. Simply cannot afford paying $20+ for a single disconnect. Would be up for over $200 to switch to switch to the polysulphone ones.

Tried several types and found that the cheapie ones tend to leak. I've found that the Hardie Pope ones don't leak and are pretty solid. A couple of dollars more each but I found them well worth it.

I use the plastic quick disconnects from B3. They work great with no leaks. After about the 10th batch with them I have been having some of the O rings break but I went to the local hardware store and have a supply of spares. only 29 cents for an o ring.

These ones http://morebeer.com/browse.html?keyword=quick%20disconnects&category_id=1069 are $29 each piece ($60 a pair) from our local HBS therefore its the garden hose connectors for me at around $4 a piece. :?

Thanks Mex,

I'm gonna upgrade to a March pump for my birthday and plan to convert everything over to QDs when I do. The Hardie/pope ones sound good.

Thanks

I've used them on one hose for the last two batches and had no burnt hands or leaks. Avoid the self-sealing connectors as they restrict flow too much. I had one connected to the output of my pump and found that my whirlpool chill wasn't very 'whirlpooly'. There was barely a trickle coming out. Ripped the value thing out with a pair of pliers and everything was good.

I'm still using brass fitting on the output of my kettle, HLT and mash tun but am considering wheter its worth switching those to plastic QDs as well.

If you are using the B3 H550 self-sealing QDs, don't rip the middles out the female side to try and improve the flow.

That apparent "obstruction" is there to open the valve in the male side and if it is not there, you will get no flow at all, no way no how.

I think they are mostly for serving, though, and not brewing.
