I've played with filtering as well, and Spider's right, it's an enormous PITA. I have 2 cartridges for my canister (I forget the micron level on either, but there's a super tight one & a looser one) I tried just running it through the tighter of the two only to fight with it the whole way. You almost have to do a double filtration in steps to prevent it clogging up constantly. That's a major pain as well, cleaning and sanitizing everything twice. I finally gave up & just drink whatever whirlfloc gives me. If I needed to get it clearer for a comp, I'd go gelatin as well as turning an extra keg into a bright tank (by cutting a couple inches from the diptube). Luckily a canister filter can be turned into a Randall pretty easily, as that's the only thing I see a use for it as.
