my 10gal aluminum is all sorts of brown on the bottom. it works fine and i don't shit blood after i drink the beer so i'm not worried.

If you soak your aluminum kettle in Oxyclean, as I did, it will leave a permanent black stain. Ugly, but not unhealthy. I clean my kettle with Barkeeper's Friend.
