Injury aside nothing worse than losing a precious batch of beer if the carboy shatters!

I'm very worried about this now. I use a neck handle on my glass carboy and have always liked it. I lift it out of a cooler with water bath to shoulders and only use my other hand when I lift the bottom above my knees. I will check mine closely now, but as was said before, why they they make a handle like this if it posed such a danger to use?

You can probably use the handle to lift it with no problem most of the time, but there is always the chance it will put too much pressure on the neck, especially if there is a tiny crack or flaw.... Like I said, I use mine mostly to maneuver it when it's covered in PBW and slippery as fuck. If I didn't have that handle, I'm sure I would have had ti squirt out of my grasp before now...

This is the only way that they should be used. It is great to have the handle to grasp onto when cleaning. I spider said I'm sure I would have lost the grip of at least one of my carboys by now.

ALL of the handles that I have bought had a warning that said they were not to be used to lift a full carboy.

Also I would go ahead and ditch the cracked carboy. No need to risk working with broken parts.

Go for a Brew Hauler instead....it's a webby sort of thing with two handles, that doesn't put pressure on the neck

Runs about $15

If you don't think it's worth it, just ask someone that has dropped, cracked, or exploded a glass carboy. Don't be surprised if his nickname is 'Lefty'

I my case, would you leave the straps on it for a week or more in the water bath or try to take it off and on under water or what? I may have been living on borrowed time for the last year or so.

straps on brew hauler are nylon, so water should not have big effect, right?

I believe they are nylon, not sure what the stitching is on them...
